Feli, 5 (left), and Kimy, 6 (centre), study at home with their father in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 1 April 2020. They have been studying at home since the second week of March when the Jakarta provincial government closed all schools in the city to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Feli and Kimy are both in kindergarten, and their teacher sends them an assignment every day which their father helps them to complete.

“I like studying at home, but I miss my friends at school," said Kimy. “I am happy because I can see my parents the whole time every day.”

“I love to learn Arabic words with my father and my sister," she added. "There is more time for drawing and coloring. It's more fun.”

Children, especially the most vulnerable, are among the most severely impacted victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of its emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, UNICEF is working with the government to provide support and guidelines for distance learning and child protection while schools are closed. UNICEF is also supporting the Education and Culture Ministry to air an educational TV programme to help children with limited internet access to learn from home.
